First Aid Courses

First Aid

Recently we were contacted by Alternative Adventure who are running the 1st aid courses listed below. We would like to remind our members that we always need first aiders at the events we hold just in case of any issues that may arise.

If anybody is interested in attanding a First Aid course with Alternative Adventure or any other supplier then SELOC would be willing to make a contribution towards the cost of the course. Each application will be considered as an individual case based on the cost of the course and a contribution offer would be made to the applicant.

POC PostPost Checker wanted!!

GMOA need a post checker for Phillips Park, Prestwich.

This is a voluntary position and requires a visit to the part approximately three times a year to check the state permanent orienteering posts.

A report then is emailed (or posted!) to Phil Ellis, (GMOA northern maintenance coordinator)

N.B. Visits can be combined with a stroll/run around the area. Travel expenses can be claimed from GMOA.

For further information please contact Phil Ellis at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

GMOA Area Review

Print
GMOA LogoAn opportunity for part-time, paid, orienteering-related work.

GMOA is looking for a group of people who will be able to develop and extend the work that the current post-watchers do. Post-watchers may be ideal candidates but this is a much wider brief.

We want to keep all our POCs up-to-date, usable and useful, and are trying to make the workload involved more manageable by getting more people involved.

The responsibilities will be:

  • Carry out a comprehensive review of the courses planned in an area or group of areas on a yearly, or maybe two-yearly basis.
  • Document each review using the attached template (GMOA_POC_Review_v1.6.doc). This shows all the different aspects of our systems that need to be kept up-to-date.
  • Keep in contact with the local authority or group responsible for the upkeep of an area

Each review will require at least one site visit, and a number of phone calls and/or email contacts – some of these could cover multiple parks at the same time. For example, it would be possible for one individual to cover all parks in a Borough. Payment will be made for each park and will vary according to size and complexity.

Where a Review identifies issues, the Committee will decide how to sort them out – this role is about identifying issues not solving them.

We are keen to get this new approach started as soon as possible. Initial expressions of interest please, to Caroline Barcham ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) by 24 Jan 2012.

Of the 10 nominees, Stephen came out top, in recognition of his contribution over the year, not only in organising and planning events in the Wigan side of our area but especially for the substantial effort in thoroughly updating a large part of the Clowbridge map including the fast maturing wooded areas.

Training Day for South Lancs Junior Squad

Print

Training Day for the South Lancs Junior Squad plus families.

I am looking to run a training day on the 24th October for Junior Squad regulars plus new members and families. I am proposing to hold it at Beacon Fell for a change as it has a cafe and toilets.

The training will be varied to suit all those who come. I will be looking to start around 10.30 and finishing at 3.30 at the latest. If there is the demand I will be taking a minibus from Rossendale.

In the past these days have proved very enjoyable for all those who have taken part both juniors and parents. If you have not been before and want to come please and your parents do NOT want to stay please go to the PFO website juniors page and print off + fill in the medical form.

There is no cost to the day but you will need food and drink or some money to buy something at the cafe. You will need warm and waterproof clothing plus a change of clothes. Please can you contact me ASAP so that I know whether to borrow the mini bus.

I am hoping for a good turn out as there may well be a photographer taking pictures for the British Orienteering brochures.
